What is the Express Entry Program?

The Express Entry Program is an online immigration system used by Canada to manage applications from skilled workers, including those from the UAE, who want to obtain permanent residency (PR).

In this system, candidates are ranked based on factors such as age, education, work experience, and English language skills. Those with higher scores receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residency, and our UAE-based consultants can help you maximize your profile.

The Express Entry Program is one of the fastest and most popular ways for UAE residents to move to Canada, with a typical processing time of 6 to 8 months.

3 Programs Under Express Entry

Canada’s Express Entry system manages applications across three federal immigration programs. Understanding which program fits your profile is the first step toward Canadian permanent residency.

1. Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP)

The Federal Skilled Worker Program is the most popular Express Entry stream for skilled professionals applying from outside Canada, including UAE residents.

Best For: Professionals with overseas work experience in managerial, technical, or skilled occupations.

Key Requirements:

  • Minimum 1 year of continuous skilled work experience in the last 10
  • Valid language test results — minimum CLB 7 in all four abilities (IELTS: 6.0 in each band)
  • Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) from a recognized organization
  • Minimum 67 points on the FSW eligibility grid
  • Sufficient proof of funds to settle in Canada

The FSW eligibility grid scores candidates on six factors: language skills (maximum 28 points), education (maximum 25 points), work experience (maximum 15 points), age (maximum 12 points), arranged employment (maximum 10 points), and adaptability (maximum 10 points).

2. Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP)

The Federal Skilled Trades Program is designed for workers with experience in a skilled trade occupation such as electricians, plumbers, welders, carpenters, and industrial mechanics.

Best For: Trade workers with hands-on technical experience in an eligible skilled trade occupation.

Key Requirements:

  • Minimum 2 years of full-time skilled trade work experience in the last 5 years
  • Language test results — minimum CLB 5 in and listening, CLB 4 in reading and writing
  • A valid job offer of at least 1 year from a Canadian employer, OR a certificate of qualification in your trade issued by a Canadian provincial authority
  • No minimum education requirement

3. Canadian Experience Class (CEC)

The Canadian Experience Class is for skilled workers who have already gained work experience inside Canada as a temporary foreign worker or international student.

Best For: Those currently working or studying in Canada who wish to transition to permanent residency.

Key Requirements:

  • Minimum 1 year of skilled work experience in Canada within the last 3 years

  • Language test results — minimum CLB 7 for NOC TEER 0 or 1 occupations, CLB 5 for TEER 2 or 3 occupations

  • Plan to live outside the province of Quebec

Note: If you are currently living in the UAE and have never worked in Canada, the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) is most likely your best pathway. Our RCIC consultants in Dubai will assess your profile and recommend the most suitable stream for your situation.

Who Can Apply? (Eligibility Criteria)

You may be eligible for the Express Entry Program if you meet the following requirements for UAE residents:

  • Age between 18 to 45 years

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree or equivalent

  • Skilled work experience

  • Valid IELTS or PTE test score

  • Sufficient proof of funds

What is CRS Score?

The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) is used to rank candidates in the Express Entry pool. Your CRS score is based on:

  • Age

  • Education

  • Language proficiency

A higher CRS score increases the chances of receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA). Our Dubai-based consultants help UAE residents maximize their CRS scores.

FAQs

What is the current CRS cutoff score for Express Entry in 2026?

CRS cutoff scores change with every draw. In recent All-Programs draws, cutoffs have ranged between 480 and 550 points. Category-based draws such as Healthcare, STEM, and French language proficiency draws typically have lower cutoffs. Contact our consultants for the most current draw information and a free CRS score assessment.

Express Entry is an online immigration management system used by the Canadian government to process applications for permanent residency from skilled workers worldwide, including UAE residents. Candidates are ranked by CRS score and the highest-scoring candidates receive Invitations to Apply (ITA) in regular draws conducted by IRCC.

For the Federal Skilled Worker Program, you need a minimum CLB 7 in all four abilities — which corresponds to a score of 6.0 in each IELTS General Training band(reading, writing, speaking, listening). Higher IELTS scores significantly improve your CRS score and chances of receiving an ITA.

Yes. IRCC accepts both IELTS General Training and CELPIP as valid language tests for Express Entry. CELPIP is conducted entirely in Canada and may be more accessible for those already living there. UAE residents typically take IELTS General Training through British Council or IDP in Dubai.

Yes, a valid English (or French) language test is mandatory for all Express Entry streams. The test must be taken from an IRCC approved testing organization and must be valid (within 2 years) at the time of your ITA.

Your Express Entry profile remains valid for 12 months from the date of submission. If you do not receive an ITA within 12 months, you can resubmit your profile to remain in the pool.

Yes. The Federal Skilled Worker Program does not require a job offer. However, a valid job offer from a Canadian employer (in most cases backed by an LMIA) can add 50 to 200 CRS points to your profile, significantly improving your chances.
